Mermaid Events

The flagship event of the Mermaid year is Mermaid Week which incorporates the Mermaid National Championship and other races.  It takes place annually over six or seven days, commencing the weekend of the August Public Holiday and finishing the following Friday. 

The first Mermaid week was held in Skerries in 1970. The 42nd Mermaid Week will take place in August 2011 at Fenit, hosted by TBSC.

Mermaid Week 2010 - Foynes

Founded in 1962, Foynes is the home of Mermaids on the Shannon estuary.  The fleet had  challenging sailing in the strong tides, beautiful scenery of the Shannon Estuary.  Jim Dempsey sailing Paul Winters’ 183 Wannago won the trophy.

Mermaid Week 2009 - Sligo

Paddy Dillon, sailing 131 Wild Wind took honours at Mermaid Week 2009 in Sligo.

Mermaid Week 2011 - Fenit

Tralee Bay Sailing Club (TBSC) situated in Fenit, Co. Kerry was founded in 1956 by a group of local enthusiasts. From rudimentary beginnings the Club has grown and now boasts a vibrant and expanding membership together with a clubhouse and a sailing school.

Always a popular championship location, the fleet will return to sailing in the benign tides with the backdrop of beautiful scenery of Tralee Bay and Mount Brandon.
