Like Dempsey she doesn’t have to sail tomorrow. 5th August 2010 · Race 5 is starting now in a 7-10knot breeze WSW. Live Commentary is running with guests Paul Winters and Jimmy Boylan of Skerries advising the commentators. 5th August 2010 · Sailing continues this afternoon at 16:00, winds are likely to be W or WSW force 3. Live Commentary will be running from about 15:00. Yesterday Jimmy Boylan was the commentary guest, giving knowledgeable insights into the racing action. 4th August 2010 · Full Results (provisional) now available after Race 4. 4th August 2010 · Jim Dempsey of Skerries, sailing Paul Winters’ 183 Wannago (with Jim’s sails, hence the 36 in the photo) does it again. He won Race 4 and now has two 1sts and two 2nds. Jim Carthy in 123 Vee beat Paddy Dillon’s 132 Wild Wind to second place. Carthy and Dillon will need a papal blessing to win Mermaid Week at this stage. 4th August 2010 · The Race 4 Live Commentary is now running—updated every few minutes. 4th August 2010 · Jim Dempsey in 183 Wannago wins Race 3, with 131 Wild Wind and 188 Innocence second and third respectively. Geraldine O’Neill in 73 Lively Lady won the Daphne and Mark McCormack in 54 Hycilla won the Designer. 77 Tiller Girl was scored DNF in Version #3 of the Provisional Results. 3rd August 2010 · Wannago is flying today. Cian O’Regan won the crew race in her. Provisional results available now, but there are three protests. The race leader for the first 8 legs was Frankie Browne in Cara II 135, but he failed to cover on the last beat and came third. 93 Swallow sailed by Alan Berg won the Daphne, with 177 This Is It sailed by Mark Boylan winning the Designer. The Munster winner was Three Chevrons 119 Vincent McCormack and Vee won both the Master and the Celia. CRASH, BANG….. · Lot’s of broken bits today. See the photo on Live Commentary for a fitting end to Mermaid Week 6th August 2010 · Champion boat’s wearing of a Ladies Day head scarf is understandable, because she is, like all Mermaids a lady. But as for Johnny Dillon……. 6th Auguust 2010. · The crew on The Message were in trouble earlier in the week. They had to retire from Race 3 with shifty spreaders. A longer screw did the job and they had a good result in Race 4 with 7th. 4th August 2010 · Puffin has just broken the boom in Race 4—natural justice?4th August 2010 · There seems to be a dent in the boom of 37 Puffin, it hit an object thicker than a Mermaid boom. Paul is sending the bill on. He won’t accept a bag of sprouts in lieu. 4th August 2010 · Two buckets were found floating in the weather mark area after the first beat of Race 2—will anybody own up? You can dish the dirt on your fellow Mermaid sailor by emailing web@dublinbaymermaid.org, confidentially assured! 2nd August 2010 · Paul Browne’s crew on 37 Puffin sent his spinnaker pole for swim today—they had to do a U-turn to retrieve it. You would never catch the crew of Cara II doing that…. 2nd August 2010 · Remedy for marital bliss—don’t mess with the mast settings when you are crewing for your spouse. 1st August 2010 · First ‘Man Overboard’ of the week! Sarah Moran went for a swim off Syrena 38. Skipper James McCormack needs to invest in some toe straps…. 1st August 2010 · Most Mermaid owners try and avoid the class measurer when he has the weighing scales out. A certain Skerries sailor didn’t get the message and requested weighing. He is now in the market to buy some lead. 1st August 2010 · Paddy Dillon’s resourceful crew on 131 Wild Wind had to build a new boom from scratch yesterday after breaking theirs in the practice race. It’s a good job the hardware shop was open. Don’t wind on the kicker so hard next time… 1st August 2010 · You would think that the class measurer’s boat would have all the equipment required. The expression “up **** creek with out a paddle” comes to mind. 31st July 2010 · John Rooney of Rush was assisting Class Measurer Enda Weldon today in doing the safety check. John is very thorough and rumour has it that a certain Dun Laoghaire crew are looking for a chisel….. 31st July 2010 · Skipper of No. 76 Helen has suggested to webmaster that he changes to forecast to W 2-4, blue skies, sun, 29⁰ and Factor 30 required. However the webmaster has resisted and the forecast remains from Met Eireann. 31st July 2010 (early hours) · Middle Six Trophy. After Race 3 (or Race 4) the competitors for the Middle Six Trophy will selected—the six boats together in the middle of the fleet. The Trophy will be awarded at the end of the week to the best of these six. Rules are opaque, freedom of information does not apply.
